Why we built it
When we started looking for a soap calculator, nothing felt accurate enough for how we actually formulate. Other tools were missing oils, had incomplete additive lists, or didn't give us the full picture we needed when adjusting a recipe. So we built SoapMetrics — a calculator focused on precision, a complete listing of oils and additives, and the kind of analysis that helps you understand what your recipe is really doing.
Amy brings the soap-making experience — about 10 years of making soap and selling at craft shows — and knows what matters in real batches. Kevin handles the technical side and keeps pushing to make the calculator clearer, more complete, and easier to use. Together, we're building the tool we wanted from day one.
Soap making software, not only a calculator
The calculator is the starting point. SoapMetrics is also soap making software for saved recipes, batch tracking, inventory, and costs when you are ready to manage more than one formula at a time.
What the calculator offers
- Complete oils & fats database — A thorough listing of common and specialty oils with SAP values, fatty acid profiles, and quality metrics.
- Additives & extras — Track additives, fragrance loads, and recipe notes alongside your formulation.
- Lye & water calculations — NaOH and KOH support with superfat, lye discount, and water adjustments.
- Soap quality metrics — Hardness, cleansing, conditioning, lather, longevity, and more — updated as you build your recipe.
- Recipe tips & analysis — Guidance based on established soap-making ranges to help you spot issues early.
- Import & export — Work with JSON recipe files and export your work when you need a backup or shareable copy.
- Premium features — Saved recipes, full recipe instructions, PDF exports, community sharing, complete recipe tips with fix assist, and full soap analysis for subscribers who want to go further.
