3. Soap-Making Safety and Hazardous Materials
Soap making can involve hazardous chemicals, high temperatures, chemical reactions, fumes, vapors, corrosive substances, allergens, fragrances and other potentially hazardous materials.
Improper handling or formulation may result in serious consequences including, without limitation:
- Chemical burns
- Eye injuries or blindness
- Skin injuries
- Respiratory irritation
- Poisoning or toxic exposure
- Dangerous chemical reactions
- Fire
- Release of dangerous gases or vapors
- Property damage
- Allergic reactions
- Unsafe finished products
- Injury to people or animals
- Serious bodily injury
- Death
You are solely responsible for obtaining appropriate knowledge and training before attempting to manufacture soap.
You are responsible for using appropriate personal protective equipment, ventilation, containers, utensils, equipment, storage methods, handling procedures and other safety precautions appropriate for the ingredients and processes you use.
You are also responsible for obtaining and reviewing applicable manufacturer instructions, Safety Data Sheets ("SDS"), ingredient specifications and other safety information.
SoapMetrics does not supervise your manufacturing process and cannot determine whether your equipment, ingredients, environment, procedures or safety precautions are appropriate.
4. Assumption of Risk
By using SoapMetrics, you knowingly and voluntarily assume the risks associated with soap making and the use of recipes, calculations, instructions and information generated by the Service.
You acknowledge that you control:
- The ingredients you purchase
- Ingredient quality and purity
- Ingredient substitutions
- Measurements
- Equipment
- Manufacturing procedures
- Working conditions
- Safety precautions
- Batch size
- Storage
- Testing
- Packaging
- Labeling
- Distribution
- Use or sale of the resulting products
These matters are outside SoapMetrics' control.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, you assume responsibility for injuries, losses, damages or other consequences resulting from your manufacture or use of soap or other products based in whole or in part on information obtained through SoapMetrics.
5. You Must Independently Verify Recipes
Do not rely solely on SoapMetrics when working with lye or other hazardous ingredients.
Calculations may be affected by factors including:
- Incorrect user input
- Incorrect unit selection
- Ingredient substitutions
- Ingredient purity
- Lye purity
- Concentration differences
- Variations in oils or fats
- Supplier differences
- Saponification value variations
- Data inaccuracies
- Software defects
- Rounding
- Conversion errors
- Database errors
- Other variables
Saponification values and other ingredient characteristics can vary between sources, suppliers and batches.
You should use appropriate independent references, ingredient manufacturer information, testing procedures and professional judgment before manufacturing any recipe.
Where appropriate, users should perform small test batches before producing larger quantities or products intended for distribution or sale.
6. Ask SoapMetrics and AI-Generated Content
Certain SoapMetrics features, including Ask SoapMetrics, use generative artificial intelligence or other automated systems to generate instructions, recommendations, explanations, or other content. Ask SoapMetrics is SoapMetrics' soap-making AI assistant and is intended to help with questions about the recipe currently loaded in the calculator. Additional information is available on the Ask SoapMetrics page.
AI responses can be wrong. Do not treat them as the calculator.
Users are responsible for independently verifying recipe calculations, ingredient quantities, SAP values, lye requirements, usage rates, safety procedures, temperatures, ingredient suitability, regulatory information, and other formulation information before producing or using a product. AI-generated responses should not be used to override or replace calculations produced by the SoapMetrics formulation tools.
If an Ask SoapMetrics response disagrees with the SoapMetrics calculator, you must treat the calculator results as controlling for lye, water, superfat, weights, and other calculated amounts, and you must investigate the difference before making soap.
You remain solely responsible for:
- Checking lye amounts, SAP values, units, and ingredient quantities
- Confirming ingredient suitability, purity, and usage rates
- Following safety precautions, including handling of NaOH and KOH
- Reviewing temperatures, process steps, and manufacturer instructions
- Confirming labeling, regulatory, and commercial requirements that apply to you
- Testing recipes, including small test batches where appropriate
SoapMetrics does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, reliability, or suitability of any AI-generated output. AI output must not be considered authoritative safety, chemical, medical, regulatory, or professional advice.
You should never disregard known safety procedures, Safety Data Sheets, ingredient manufacturer instructions, or the SoapMetrics calculator because of information generated by Ask SoapMetrics or any other AI system.
The AI service, model, configuration, or provider used by Ask SoapMetrics may change, be limited, or become temporarily unavailable. SoapMetrics does not guarantee uninterrupted AI availability.
How Ask SoapMetrics processes information is described in our Privacy Policy. Do not submit sensitive personal information, financial information, passwords, health information, or other confidential information through the AI chat.
7. No Professional Advice
SoapMetrics does not provide professional chemical, toxicological, medical, dermatological, legal, regulatory, accounting or other professional advice.
Nothing provided through the Service establishes a professional-client, consultant-client or similar relationship.
When professional expertise is necessary, you are responsible for consulting an appropriately qualified professional.
8. Finished Product Safety
A calculation indicating that a recipe falls within particular ranges or displays desirable soap properties does not guarantee that the finished product will be safe, effective or suitable for any particular person or purpose.
SoapMetrics does not test your finished products.
You are solely responsible for determining whether a finished product is safe before it is:
- Used
- Given to another person
- Sold
- Distributed
- Marketed
- Otherwise made available
9. Allergies, Sensitivities and Ingredient Reactions
SoapMetrics cannot determine whether an ingredient or finished product will cause an allergic reaction, sensitivity, irritation or other adverse effect.
Users are responsible for evaluating ingredient risks and determining whether appropriate testing, warnings or disclosures are required.
SoapMetrics does not guarantee that any recipe is hypoallergenic, non-irritating, dermatologically safe or suitable for any individual.
10. Commercial Use
You may use recipes created with SoapMetrics to manufacture products for personal or commercial purposes.
However, SoapMetrics does not approve, certify, license or endorse any product created using the Service.
If you manufacture, market, distribute or sell products based on a SoapMetrics recipe, you are solely responsible for all applicable:
- Product safety requirements
- Product testing
- Manufacturing practices
- Ingredient requirements
- Labeling
- Allergen disclosures
- Warning statements
- Packaging
- Product claims
- Advertising
- Licensing
- Registrations
- Taxes
- Insurance
- Recordkeeping
- Consumer protection requirements
- Recall obligations
- Local, state, federal and international laws and regulations
You are responsible for determining which laws and regulations apply to your products and business.
The fact that SoapMetrics allows a recipe to be calculated or analyzed does not mean that the resulting product complies with any applicable law or regulation.
11. User Inputs
The accuracy of SoapMetrics depends in part upon information provided by users.
You are responsible for confirming the accuracy of information you enter, including ingredient quantities, units, lye type, concentrations, superfat percentages and other recipe information.
SoapMetrics is not responsible for results caused by inaccurate, incomplete or incorrectly entered information.
Do not submit sensitive personal information, financial information, passwords, health information, or other confidential information through Ask SoapMetrics or other chat or notes fields unless that information is necessary for the Service you are requesting.
12. No Guarantee of Results
Soap making involves variables beyond SoapMetrics' control.
We make no guarantee concerning:
- Finished soap quality
- Hardness
- Lather
- Cleansing properties
- Conditioning properties
- Longevity
- Cure time
- Appearance
- Fragrance retention
- Color
- Texture
- Stability
- Shelf life
- Marketability
- Profitability
- Customer satisfaction
- Any other result
13. Accounts
Certain features may require an account.
You agree to provide accurate account information and keep it current.
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for activity occurring through your account.
You may not share an account in a manner intended to circumvent subscription requirements or usage restrictions.
Notify us at [email protected] if you believe your account has been compromised.
14. Free and Premium Features
SoapMetrics may provide both free and paid features.
The core calculator and other designated features may be offered without charge, while additional features may require a Premium subscription.
We may add, remove, modify or reorganize Service features over time.
Any feature specifically represented by us as "always free" or equivalent will remain subject to these Terms and reasonable technical and usage limitations.
15. Premium Subscriptions
Premium subscriptions are billed on a recurring monthly basis.
When purchasing Premium, you authorize our payment processor to charge the applicable subscription amount and any required taxes to your selected payment method.
Your Premium subscription automatically renews each month until you cancel it.
You may cancel at any time.
Unless otherwise required by law:
- Cancellation stops future renewals
- Your Premium access continues through the remainder of the billing period you already paid for
- You will not receive a prorated refund for unused portions of a billing period
- Fees already paid are non-refundable
Nothing in this section limits refund, cancellation, withdrawal or other consumer rights that cannot lawfully be waived.
Automatic-renewal laws vary by jurisdiction. In the United States, the FTC continues to regulate deceptive subscription and negative-option practices, although its broader 2024 "click-to-cancel" rule was vacated and the FTC reopened rulemaking in 2026. Your actual checkout and cancellation process therefore needs to match applicable law, not merely the wording in these Terms.
16. Payment Processing
Payments may be processed by third-party payment providers, including Stripe.
Use of payment processing services may also be subject to the terms and policies of the applicable payment provider.
We are not responsible for interruptions, errors or failures caused by third-party payment services.
17. Failed Payments and Expired Subscriptions
If payment is declined, reversed, disputed or otherwise unsuccessful, we may suspend or terminate Premium access.
When a subscription ends, is cancelled, expires for nonpayment, or an account is terminated, saved recipes, account information and other stored Service data may be permanently deleted and may not be recoverable, subject to our Privacy Policy and applicable legal requirements.
SoapMetrics is not a permanent backup or archival service.
You are responsible for exporting or otherwise retaining copies of recipes or information you wish to preserve before your account or subscription ends.
18. Refund Policy
Because Premium provides access to digital services and features, payments are generally non-refundable once charged.
Refunds will not be provided for:
- Partial billing periods
- Failure to use the Service
- Failure to cancel before renewal
- A user's decision to stop using Premium
This policy applies except where a refund, cancellation or withdrawal right is required by applicable law.
Consumers in some countries, including the UK and European Economic Area, may have mandatory rights relating to digital services that cannot simply be eliminated by a Terms of Service agreement.
19. Intellectual Property
The SoapMetrics Service, including its software, design, interface, code, databases, calculation systems, graphics, branding, text, documentation and other proprietary materials, is owned by or licensed to SoapMetrics and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws.
Except as expressly permitted by these Terms, you may not:
- Copy the Service
- Reproduce substantial portions of it
- Resell access
- Redistribute it
- Reverse engineer it
- Attempt to obtain its source code
- Circumvent access controls
- Scrape the Service in bulk
- Create an unauthorized competing copy
- Use automated systems in a manner that harms or overloads the Service
- Remove proprietary notices
20. Your Recipes and Content
You retain whatever ownership rights you otherwise have in original recipes or content you submit to SoapMetrics.
By submitting information to the Service, you grant SoapMetrics a limited license to process, store, transmit and otherwise use that information as reasonably necessary to operate and provide the Service.
This license does not give SoapMetrics ownership of your original recipe.
Storage and handling of personal information is also governed by our Privacy Policy available at soapmetrics.com/privacy-policy.
21. Acceptable Use
You may not use SoapMetrics:
- For unlawful purposes
- To interfere with Service security
- To attempt unauthorized access
- To introduce malware or malicious code
- To abuse Service infrastructure
- To circumvent subscription restrictions
- To impersonate another person
- To engage in fraud
- To violate intellectual property rights
- In any manner reasonably likely to damage SoapMetrics or its users
We may suspend or terminate access for violations.
22. Service Availability
We attempt to maintain reliable Service availability, but uninterrupted operation cannot be guaranteed.
SoapMetrics may occasionally be unavailable because of:
- Maintenance
- Software updates
- Hosting outages
- Internet outages
- Third-party service failures
- AI model, provider, or feature unavailability, including temporary unavailability of Ask SoapMetrics
- Cybersecurity incidents
- Equipment failures
- Bugs
- Circumstances outside our reasonable control
We are not responsible for losses resulting from temporary or permanent Service unavailability to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law.
23. Third-Party Services
SoapMetrics may rely upon or link to third-party services.
We do not control third-party services and do not guarantee their availability, security, accuracy or performance.
Your use of third-party services may be governed by separate terms and privacy policies.
24. Disclaimer of Warranties
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, SOAPMETRICS AND THE SERVICE ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE."
We disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, reliability, availability, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, safety, and suitability for commercial use.
We do not warrant that calculations, data, recommendations, instructions, AI-generated content or other information will be error-free.
Nothing in these Terms excludes warranties or rights that cannot legally be excluded.
25. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, SOAPMETRICS, ITS OWNER, OPERATORS, AFFILIATES, CONTRACTORS, SERVICE PROVIDERS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS AND REPRESENTATIVES WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, EXEMPLARY, PUNITIVE OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE.
This includes, without limitation: personal injury; property damage; product damage; lost profits; lost revenue; business interruption; loss of recipes or data; product recalls; customer claims; failed batches; ingredient costs; manufacturing losses; or commercial losses, to the extent such liability may lawfully be excluded or limited.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the aggregate liability of SoapMetrics for claims arising from or relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of: (a) the amount you paid SoapMetrics during the 12 months immediately preceding the event giving rise to the claim; or (b) $100 USD.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful. For example, UK consumer law does not permit a trader to exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by its negligence.
26. Release
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, you release SoapMetrics and its owner, operators, affiliates and service providers from claims arising from risks inherent in your handling of chemicals, manufacture of products, use of recipes, use or sale of finished products, or failure to follow appropriate safety procedures.
This provision does not release claims that applicable law prohibits from being waived.
27. Indemnification
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless SoapMetrics and its owner, operators, affiliates, employees, contractors, agents and service providers from third-party claims, damages, losses, liabilities, judgments, costs and reasonable legal fees arising from or related to:
- Your use of the Service
- Your violation of these Terms
- A recipe manufactured by you
- Products manufactured, distributed or sold by you
- Injury allegedly caused by your products
- Product labeling or advertising
- Claims you make concerning a product
- Your violation of law or regulation
- Your negligence or misconduct
- Your infringement of another person's rights
This section applies only to the extent permitted by applicable law.
28. Dispute Resolution and Binding Arbitration
Please read this section carefully. It affects your legal rights.
Either party may bring an eligible claim in small claims court.
Arbitration will be administered by the American Arbitration Association ("AAA") under the applicable AAA rules then in effect.
Arbitration may be conducted remotely where permitted by the applicable rules.
The arbitrator may award any relief available under applicable law on an individual basis.
Arbitration Opt-Out
You may opt out of this arbitration agreement by emailing [email protected] within 30 days after first accepting these Terms.
Your notice must state that you are opting out of the SoapMetrics arbitration provision and provide the email address associated with your account.
Opting out of arbitration does not affect the remainder of these Terms.
29. Class Action Waiver
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, disputes must be brought individually and not as a plaintiff or class member in a class, collective, consolidated or representative action.
An arbitrator may not consolidate claims of different users except where applicable law requires otherwise.
If applicable law does not permit enforcement of this waiver for a particular claim, that claim will be handled as required by applicable law.
30. Intellectual Property and Security Claims
Notwithstanding the arbitration provisions above, SoapMetrics may seek temporary, preliminary or permanent injunctive relief from a court of competent jurisdiction where necessary to protect intellectual property, confidential information, Service security or prevent unauthorized access or abuse.
31. Governing Law
Except where applicable consumer law requires otherwise, these Terms and disputes arising from them are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
Where arbitration does not apply, you consent to jurisdiction in an appropriate state or federal court located in Georgia.
32. International Users
SoapMetrics is operated from the United States but may be accessed internationally.
Users outside the United States are responsible for determining whether use of SoapMetrics and any products they create comply with the laws applicable in their jurisdiction.
Nothing in these Terms is intended to eliminate consumer rights or statutory protections that cannot legally be waived under the laws applicable to you.
If a mandatory local consumer protection law conflicts with these Terms, that mandatory law controls only to the extent required.
33. Privacy
Your use of SoapMetrics is subject to our Privacy Policy:
soapmetrics.com/privacy-policy
The Privacy Policy explains how personal information associated with the Service is collected, used and handled.
34. Electronic Communications
By creating an account or providing an email address, you agree that we may provide Service-related communications electronically, including account notices, billing information, security notices, changes to these Terms and other legally required communications where permitted.
Marketing communications will be handled separately where required by applicable law.
35. Suspension and Termination
We may suspend or terminate accounts or access to the Service when reasonably necessary because of:
- Violation of these Terms
- Fraud
- Abuse
- Nonpayment
- Security concerns
- Illegal activity
- Threats to the Service or other users
- Discontinuation of the Service
You may stop using SoapMetrics at any time.
Termination does not eliminate obligations or rights that by their nature should survive termination, including intellectual property provisions, warranty disclaimers, liability limitations, indemnification and dispute-resolution provisions.
36. Changes to the Service
We may modify, update, replace or discontinue Service functionality.
This includes Ask SoapMetrics. The AI model, provider, configuration, or availability of that feature may change or become temporarily unavailable.
We are not obligated to continue providing every feature indefinitely unless applicable law requires otherwise.
37. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms periodically.
When we make material changes, we will update the Effective Date and provide notice when reasonably appropriate.
Where applicable law requires renewed affirmative consent, we will request such consent.
Your continued use of the Service after updated Terms become effective constitutes acceptance to the extent permitted by applicable law.
38. Force Majeure
SoapMetrics will not be responsible for delays or failures caused by circumstances outside its reasonable control, including internet failures, hosting failures, utility outages, natural disasters, government actions, labor disputes, cybersecurity incidents, war, civil disturbance or failures of third-party providers.
39. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, that provision will be enforced to the maximum extent permitted or severed as necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in effect.
40. No Waiver
Failure to enforce a provision of these Terms does not waive our right to enforce it later.
41. Assignment
You may not transfer your rights or obligations under these Terms without our written consent.
We may assign these Terms in connection with a merger, acquisition, sale, reorganization or transfer of the SoapMetrics business, subject to applicable law.
42. Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any additional terms presented for particular features or purchases, constitute the entire agreement between you and SoapMetrics concerning the Service.
